J. Mason Whalen Jr., 46

GREAT BARRINGTON - J. Mason Whalen Jr., 46, of Silver Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at home following a brief illness. Born in Great Barrington on Feb. 11, 1961, son of Hannah Wyman Agar and the late John M. Whalen Sr., he graduated from Monument Mountain Regional High School in 1980 and from Dean Junior College in Franklin in 1982. An Air Force veteran, he served from 1985 until his honorable discharge in 1989. Mr. Whalen was employed at Orange Ford in Albany, N.Y., for several years. He earlier had been a manager at Condor Chevrolet in Great Barrington for five years. An avid fan of the Reds Sox and New England Patriots, he coached varsity baseball at Mount Everett Regional School. Besides his mother and his stepfather, Stephen W. Agar, of South Egremont, he leaves his former wife and dear friend, Wilma Bramlett Whalen of Sheffield; a son, Garret Whalen of Sheffield, a daughter, Jena Whalen of Sheffield, and aunts, uncles and cousins. Another brother, Timothy Whalen, died Oct. 26, 2003. FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Whalen will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. Michael Callea. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Egremont. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Bosox Club, an organization established by fans of the Boston Red Sox to promote baseball and assist the Red Sox in all of their community and charitable endeavors, through Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
