GREAT BARRINGTON - Doris Jean Van Deusen Southergill, 86, of Stockbridge Road, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 25, 2007, at home. Born in Great Barrington on Nov. 11, 1921, daughter of Earle C. and Marjorie Spurr Van Deusen, her family lived in Mount Washington and she attended local schools, graduating from the former Searles High School in 1939. She graduated from the Hartford (Conn.) Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. Mrs. Southergill was a nurse at Hartford Hospital and at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. She also worked for the Berkshire and Lee visiting nurse associations. Following her retirement, she continued to care for her husband, the late Robert T. Southergill Jr., and other family and friends. She leaves two sons, Robert T. Southergill III of Brooksville, Fla., and Alan T. Southergill and his wife, Christy, of Phoenix; her sisters, Lucile Van Deusen of Mount Washington and Bernice Bergersen of East Hartland, Conn.; two brothers-in-law, Norman Southergill and his wife, Lucy, of Winsted, Conn., and Morgan Bulkeley of Pittsfield; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Van Deusen of Manchester, N.H., and Elizabeth Southergill of Vernon, Conn.; two grandsons, Keith Southergill of Phoenix and Glen Southergill of Columbia, S.C., and numerous other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by another sister, Barbara Bulkeley, and a brother, Alfred Van Deusen. FUNERAL NOTICE - The family of the late Doris Jean Southergill will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, from 4 until 7 p.m. at Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. A memorial service will be held in the spring at a time to be announced.
