Eleanor D. Blake, 87

SHEFFIELD - Eleanor Dorothea Blake, 87, formerly of Sheffield, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Va. Born in New York City on Jan. 22, 1921, to William Cyril Josephine McDowell Fitzpatrick, she graduated from Scarsdale (N.Y.) High in 1939 and from Berkeley Lewellyn School in New York City in 1940. She moved to the Berkshires in 1970 and Sheffield in 1980. She moved to Richmond last year to be closer to family. Mrs. Blake worked for several years in the advertising departments of several publications in Manhattan, N.Y. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church and was active in the Sheffield Art League and the Sheffield Historical Society for many years. She volunteered at the Visiting Nurse Association Thrift Shop and the Divine Mercy prayer line in Stockbridge. Her husband, Gerard James Blake, whom she married in 1948, died in 1966. She leaves three daughters, Eileen Blake Fitzpatrick of Sterling, Regina JoAnne Mather of South Egremont and Patricia Ellen Vogt of Richmond, five grandchildren, Vincent Gross of South Royalton, Vt., Justin, Sarah and Bethany Mather of South Egremont, and Amelia Grace Vogt-Guigou of Richmond. She was predeceased a brother William Edward Blake in 1937. FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Blake will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church by the Rev. John Lis, pastor. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, N.Y. The family will receive friends during a calling hour preceding the funeral on Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Birches-Roy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Our Lady of he Valley Church memorial fund in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
