HINSDALE — Carl E. Magnusson, 93, of Country Road died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Williamstown Commons, following a brief illness. Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on June 10, 1914, son of Alex and Anna Elofson Magnusson, he received his education there. A World War II Navy veteran, he served as a yeoman, first Mr. Magnusson was employed as a firefighter with New Rochelle Fire Department, retiring after 29 years. He married the former Emilie Vasile on Sept. 25, 1943, at Immaculate Conception Church in East Chester, N.Y. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and for 25 years he and his wife wintered in Clearwater, Fla. Besides his wife, of Hinsdale, he leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Alfred Magnusson, and two sisters, Marge Walther and Esther Eklund. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services will be held Monday April 14, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a prayer from Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, Vt., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at noon at Sacred Heart-St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, April 12, and on Sunday, April 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. both days when the family will be in attendance.
