Joseph G. Curtiss, 77
SHEFFIELD â€' Joseph G. Curtiss, 77, of County Road died May 3, 2008, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington after a long illness.
Born in North Canaan, Conn., on Aug. 12, 1931, the son of Louis G. and Margaret Carnegie Curtiss, he attended Connecticut schools.
An Army veteran, he served in Germany from 1949 to 1952.
Mr. Curtiss was employed by Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Lee for 26 years, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed winter trips to Florida, golfing, fishing, bowling, hunting and also was a commercial pilot. He was an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Nascar fan, and enjoyed scratch tickets. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foriegn Wars post in Canaan, Conn., and the American Legion.
His wife, the former Ann Markham, who he married on Nov. 12, 1955, in Old Parish Church, died Dec. 30, 1991.
He is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Meyer and her husband, David, of Monterey; a son, Glenn Curtiss and his wife, Sandy, of Sheffield; his friend and companion Shirley Bachetti of Sheffield; four sisters, Mary Lodgerwell of the state of Florida, Shirley Smith of Salisbury, Conn., Edith "Edie" Thomen of Canaan and Peggy Canevari of Rhode Island, and three brothers, William and James Curtiss, both of the state of Florida, and John Curtiss of Tennessee, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Joseph Curtiss Jr., and another brother, Louis G. Curtiss Jr.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Joseph G. Curtiss will be conducted on Thursday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington
by the Rev. Arthur Kaufman. Burial will follow in Sheffield Center Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, May 8, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
