Alice G. Cerny, 85
HILLSDALE, N.Y. â€' Alice G. Cerny, 85, of Holm Road died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at home.
Born in Queens on Jan. 26, 1923, daughter of John and Frances Theisen Goetke, she attended schools in New York and graduated from St. Michael's High School. She moved to Hillsdale in 1975.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Cerny had worked as an insurance underwriter at William H. McGee & Co. Inc. in New York City in her early years.
She loved cooking for her family and spending time in her flower garden. She and her husband, Henry J. Cerny, also loved boating and fishing. Her greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren.
Her husband, whom she married May 16, 1948, in St. Virgilius' Church in Queens, died March 3.
She leaves two sons, John Cerny of East Chatham and Robert Cerny of Hillsdale; three daughters, Janet Lamontanary of East Taconic, Mary Roy of Hillsdale and Clare Fabozzi of East Schodack; a sister Clare Roman of Oneonta, and a brother, John Goetke of New Jersey, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by another brother, Robert Goetke.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Alice G. Cerny will be conducted Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. William Murphy, pastor St. Peter's Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 9, from 4 until 7 at the funeral home.
