Leonard M. Benoit, 87

NORTH ADAMS â€' Leonard Malcolm Benoit, 87, of 54 Kemp Ave., died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at home. Born in North Adams on Sept. 19, 1920, the son of Henry and Nellie Bryant Benoit, he graduated from Drury High School. An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he achieved the rank of sergeant and was decorated with the European African Eastern Ribbon and Good Conduct and the Victory medals. Mr. Benoit was employed for many years as a bridge foreman for the Massachusetts Highway Department, retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and traveling to Maine for family vacations. His wife, the former Yvonne St. Pierre, whom he married June 7, 1947, died Feb. 27, 2007. He leaves a daughter, Charlene Cheesbro and her husband, Wayne, of North Adams; a son, David Benoit and his wife, Rosemary, of Pittsfield, three grandchildren, Shawn Benoit, Shane Benoit and Erika Cheesbro, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Benoit, and a sister, Marion Quinton. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Services will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the Western Massachusetts Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
