Joyce E. Ruppert, 90

GREAT BARRINGTON — Joyce Evelyn Ruppert, 90, formerly of Cooper Road, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Born in Truxton, N.Y., on Nov. 22, 1917, daughter of Fred and Eliza Hoare Curtis, she grew up on the family dairy farm in Truxton and was educated through high school in a one-room school house there. She earned her nursing degree at St. John's University. She resided in Long Island, N.Y., after her marriage and moved to Great Barrington in 1973. She purchased a home in Boothbay Harbor six months ago to live near her daughter. Mrs. Ruppert and her husband, Louis Francis Ruppert, purchased in 1973 the Lantern House motel, where she also started a small antique business. She was a talented self-taught painter and made beautiful hand-hooked rugs, many of which she also designed. She was an avid reader and loved antiqueing for her shop and home. Her husband, whom she married in 1941, died in 1995. Besides her daughter, Joyce Dinnar and her husband, Ken, of Boothbay Harbor, she leaves two sons, Curtis Ruppert and Louis Ruppert and his wife, Susan, all of Truxton; her brother, Charles Curtis of Truxton, and three grandchildren, Louis Ruppert Jr., Raymond Ruppert and Peter Ruppert. She was predeceased another brother, Raymond Curtis, and her sister, Dorothy Brooks. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Joyce Evelyn Ruppert will be conducted on Wednesday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, St. Andrews' Hospital, Boothbay Harbor, Maine, through the funeral home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
