Irene M. Casey, 95
GREAT BARRINGTON — Irene M. Casey, 95, of 530 Main St., died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Fairview Commons.
Born in Waterbury, Conn., on Aug. 27, 1912, daughter of Joseph and Georgianna Cantin Carrier, she attended schools there and was a graduate of Wilby High School.
Mrs. Casey had worked for the former New England Telephone Co. for five years and for the former W.T. Grant Co. She and her husband, Joseph M. Casey, ran the former Great Barrington Golf Course from 1974 to 1976.
She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church.
Her husband, a former town clerk and treasurer, whom she married May 26, 1941, in St. Anne's Church in Waterbury, died Sept. 3, 2002.
She leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Ron White of Great Barrington and Mary Ann and Robert Croker of Newmarket, N.H, two grandchildren, Jean Gagnon and Barry Croker, and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Joseph Casey, and a grandson, Keith C. White in 1990.
FUNERAL SERVICE — Funeral services for Irene M. Casey will be held Monday, July 14, at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Peter's Church by the Rev. William P. Murphy, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends at a calling hour proceeding the funeral from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Birches-Roy Funeral Home.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Casey's memory be made to the Fairview Commons Activities Fund or to the Special Olympics-Berkshire Chapter, both in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
