Iva Albano, 92

GREAT BARRINGTON â€' Iva Albano, 92, a longtime resident of Benton Avenue, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Berkshire Place in Pittsfield. She had more recently resided on Grove Road in Stockbridge. Born in Newburgh, N.Y., on May 26, 1916, daughter of Henry and Florence Mae Tillson Gillespie, she graduated from schools there and was a graduate of the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Newburgh. Mrs. Albano was a devoted wife and mother and cherished spending time with her family. She and her husband, the late Dr. Peter R. Albano, moved to Great Barrington after their marriage and spent winters in Boynton Beach, Fla., for many years. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Great Barrington and was very involved in her church community. She also was a member of the Fairview Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary and of the Great Barrington Bridge Club. Her husband, whom she married on July 13, 1940, in Newburg, died on Sept. 5, 1989. She leaves two sons, Michael H. Albano and his wife, Sally, of Bethlehem, Pa., and Peter R. Albano and his wife, Anne, of Salinas, Calif.; three daughters, Susan A. Cowan of Pittsfield, Annette F. Riposo and her husband, Michael, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Florence T. Campbell of Gloucester; eight grandchildren, Sarah Wascura, Elizabeth Grimm, Laura VanDruff, David Riposo, Justin Albano, Lauren Albano, Erin Campbell and Peter Campbell, and two great-grandchildren, Emily Wascura and Graydon Wascura. She was predeceased by her sister, Florence Miller. FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Iva Albano will be conducted Friday, July 25, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 25, at the church from 1 until the time of the service.
