Thomas Reilly Sr.

Thomas J. Reilly Sr., 77, of 1070 South St. died Sunday at Craneville Place of Dalton, where he had resided since July 17. Born in Rensselaer, N.Y., on April 21, 1924, son of Joseph and Mary Delaney Reilly, he attended schools there and was a 1941 graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer. He attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. He moved to Dalton in 1967, from Binghamton, N.Y., and had resided on South Street for two years. He enlisted in the Army on Feb. 8, 1943, and served during World War II with the 264th Engineer Combat Battalion in the European Theater. He was discharged on March 22, 1946, and received several medals for his service. Mr. Reilly was employed by General Electric Co. as an engineering technician for 42 years, having worked in Schenectady, N.Y., Johnson City, N.J., and for the GE Ordnance Systems Division in Pittsfield, from which he retired in 1991. While at GE, he had worked on the Poseidon, Trident I and Trident II Missile Guidance Systems for the Navy. He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church, where he taught CCD classes for several years, and was a former member of the Holy Name Society. He was a longtime member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis and a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed golfing, horse racing and traveling. He also enjoyed bowling and was a fan of the New York Yankees. He leaves his wife, the former Ann Powers, whom he married July 3, 1948, in St. John's Church in Rensselaer; three daughters, Kathleen M. Reilly and Peggy R. Miller, both of Dalton, and Judith A. Reilly-Roberts of Deep River, Conn.; three sons, Thomas J. Reilly of Beebee, Ark., James P. Reilly of Dalton and Gerard M. Reilly of Pittsfield; three brothers, William J. Reilly, Richard F. Reilly and Paul Reilly, all of Rensselaer, and 13 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Mary Reilly, who died April 19, 1955, and a brother, the late Joseph Reilly. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. John A. Koonz, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 Main St., DaltonIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Marian Fathers Association of Marian Helpers in Stockbridge, in care of the funeral home.
