Mary Cane, 80

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Mary "Betty" Cassidy Cane, 80, of Silver Street, a former longtime resident of West Road in Sheffield, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Fairview Hospital. Born in Great Barrington on May 19, 1928, daughter of Raymond and Marion Chapin Geer, she graduated from the former Sheffield High Schooland later attended the former Berkshire Business College in Pittsfield. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Cane worked for 25 years in child care as a "house parent" at the former Vesper Hills, now Berkshire Meadows, in Great Barrington. Her husband, Joseph E. Cane, whom she married on April 17, 1963, in Canaan, Conn., died on Nov. 2, 2002. Her first husband, James Cassidy, in deceased. She leaves four sons, Michael Cassidy and his wife, Julie, of Mount Shasta, Calif., Peter Cassidy of Sheffield, Shawn Cassidy and his wife, Muriel, of Ashley Falls and Thomas Cane and his wife, Susan, of Canaan, Conn.; a daughter, Theresa Kerstetter and her husband, Thomas, of Albuquerque, N.M., and grandchildren Shayna Cassidy, Dylan Cassidy, Charles Wheeler, Kristopher Palmer and Ian and Justin Kerstetter. She also was predeceased by another daughter, Patricia Ames. FUNERAL NOTICE — A private graveside service for Mrs. Cane will be held in Sheffield Center Cemetery.
