Richard L. Lefave, 58

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Richard L. "Buckwheat" Lefave, 58, of 12 Rich St., died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at North Adams Regional Hospital. He was a longtime city firefighter. Born in North Adams on Oct. 30, 1950, son of Elmer Joseph and Schevia "Shaffy" Ziter Lefave, he attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School in 1970. He was a Navy veteran. Mr. LeFave graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and was employed for 30 years as a firefighter for North Adams. He also was a member of the hazardous materials response team. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and was an avid fisherman and golfer. He loved spending time with his family and friends and loved life. He and his wife, the former Cheryl Casperson, were married July 12, 1975, in St. Francis' Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Trista Hevey and her husband, Thomas, of Ludlow; a brother, Dennis C. Lefave and his wife, Karen, of North Adams, a niece, Tara Lefave of Methuen, and aunts, uncles, cousins and a large circle of close friends. He was predeceased by a nephew, Christopher Lefave on July 6, 1986. FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Private Burial will take place at a later date. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be Monday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the Shriner's Children's Hospital or to the Jimmy Fund through the funeral home.
