Martha M. Muir, 62

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Martha M. Muir, 62, of Church Street died Friday morning, Nov. 14, 2008, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield following a brief illness. Born in Stockbridge on Sept. 16, 1946, daughter of George M. French Sr. and Gertrude Bourn French, she was a 1964 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge and graduated from the former Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1968. Mrs. Muir worked as a nurse at the former Pittsfield General Hospital, Valley View Nursing Home and Meadow Place. An active member of the community, she was a longtime, dedicated member of the Berkshire Hills Regional School Committee starting in 1979 and received an All-State School Committee Award in 1998. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was the bookkeeper and a board member for St. Paul's Children's Center. She also was active in the Williams High Alumni Association. She enjoyed going to tag sales but, above all else, she cherished spending time with her family. She and her husband, Ronald Muir, were married on Oct. 8, 1966, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Ronald Muir Jr. and his wife, Becky, of Frederick, Md., and Scott Muir of Stockbridge; a daughter, Tracy Weston and her husband, Daniel, of Stockbridge; five grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Thomas Weston and John William and Bailey Muir; her aunt Gladys Traver of Pittsfield and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by two stepbrothers and a stepsister. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Muir will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 10 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Stockbridge by the Rev. Tom Damrosch, pastor, and the Rev. Tad Evans. Burial will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 17, from 3 until 6 at Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. Those who desire may make donations in her memory to the Martha M. Muir Memorial Junior Year Scholarship Fund at Monument Mountain Regional High School or to the St. Paul's Children's Center through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Your family is one I always think of fondly,from inthe early 80's taking my son Trick Or Traeting and having Ron scare us,working with Scott at Plain School to laughs with Martha at the post office.
