H. Thomas Josephs, 79
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Herbert Thomas "Tom" Josephs, 79, of Great Barrington died at home in his sleep on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 10, 1929, he achieved his childhood dream of becoming a doctor and practiced for many years in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where he was a family practitioner who made house calls and was much loved by his patients. He moved to the Berkshires after retiring.
He was an active member of the community and of Temple Ahavath Sholom. From 2004 to 2006, he and his wife, Linda, ran the Workshop Playhouse theater in Great Barrington — he as the financial backer and host and she as producer and directer. He loved welcoming theater guests and was proud of his wife and all of the actors and others involved.
He left behind a family that feels extremely bereft at the sudden loss of this unique and incredibly loving man.
Besides his wife, whom he married in 1988, he leaves two daughters, Sheri Josephs and Laurie Josephs and her husband, Joshua Brain; two sons Jason Josephs and Scott Josephs; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Tobias and Lisa Josephs; two stepsons, Justin Kanter and Josh Kanter and his wife, Kristen, and eight grandchildren, Daniel, Logan, Bennett, Timothy, Matthew, Lindsay, Anya and Aaron.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Josephs will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at noon at Temple Ahavath Sholom on North Street in Great Barrington by Rabbi Barbara Cohen. Burial will follow in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery in Great Barrington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Ahavath Sholom through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Remembrances, memories and reflections may be sent to the family through www.finnertyandstevens.com.
