Adrien G. Lefevre, 85
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Adrien Gaston "Lefty" Lefevre, 85, of 26 Phelps Ave. died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at home.
Born in Montreal on Nov. 27, 1922, son of Edouard and Jeanne Dorval Barrette, he was adopted at age 6 months by Philias and Rachel Lucier Lefevre after the death of his mother, and moved with them to North Adams three months later. He attended the former Holy Family School and graduated in 1941 from Drury High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and a member of the championship baseball team.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific on the USS Morrison and the USS Vanadis, participating in eight major battles.
Mr. Lefevre was employed by Williams College in its buildings and grounds department as a plumber in the power plant for more than 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was first employed at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and later with Davy Deans Construction in rebuilding the Mount Greylock War Memorial.
He was a lifelong communicant of Holy Family Church and Our Lady of Mercy Church, where he served as a eucharistic minister. He was a charter member of the Greylock Community Club and a member of both Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW. He also was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Mens Club. He enjoyed golf, bowling, hunting and fishing and was an avid New York Yankees fan.
He and his wife, the former Marie V. Lentine, were married on June 5, 1948, in St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Phillipe Lefevre and his wife, Shu-Gin, of Norfolk, Va., Ronald Lefevre of Adams and Stephen Lefevre of North Adams; a brother, Urbain Barrette of Montreal; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his former daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lefevre, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters, Cecile Lize and Florence, Marie, Fernand, Dullard, Oriel, Jean Paul and Raymond Barrette.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Mr. Lefevre will be Saturday, Nov. 29, at 10 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 7. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA and Hospice of North Berkshire in care of the funeral home.
