E. Reda Sirard, 86
ADAMS, Mass. — E. Reda Sirard, 86, of 11 Glenndale Drive died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2009, at home surrounded by family.
Born in England on Jan. 16, 1923, daughter of Joseph and Mary Hart Markland, she emigrated to North Adams at age 9 and was a graduate of the former St. Joseph's School.
Mrs. Sirard was employed in North Adams Regional Hospital's radiology department as a medical records keeper. She retired some years ago. She was first employed at the former Arnold Print Works.
An enthusiastic mentor for young girls, she was a Brownie Scout leader for 30 years with the St. Thomas Troop.
Her first husband, Ewart D. Callahan, a former Adams Selectman, died in 1976.
She leaves her husband, Robert Sirard, a retired McCann Technical School social studies teacher; a daughter, Connie O'Hagerty and her husband, Charles, of Hinsdale; a brother, James Markland of Adams; sister, Marie Maroni of North Adams, four grandchildren, Kellie Duffy and her husband, Michael, of Pittsfield, Patrick O'Hagerty and his wife, Tina, of Castleton, N.Y., Matthew Sirard and his wife, Melissa, of Savannah, Ga., and Michael Sirard and his wife, Shannon, of Pittsboro, N.C., and great-granchildren Taylor Sirard Cameron, Colin O'Hagerty and Riley O'Hagerty.
She was predeceased by sons Dennis Callahan in childhood and Kevin J. Callahan in 1984.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services will be from McBride Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 9 a.m., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Pope John Paul the Great Church in Adams. There will be no calling hours. The interment service will follow in Southview Cemetery.
