Silvio J. Lamarre Jr., 82
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Silvio Jules Lamarre Jr., 82, of 71 Hawthorne Ave. died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on Nov. 5, 1929, son of Silvio J. and Christine E. Abuisi Lamarre, he attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1947. He was a three-sport athlete at Drury competing in football, basketball, and baseball and was the captain of the basketball team his senior year. He graduated from Norwich University, where he was the captain of the baseball team.
An Army veteran, he served with the 899th Tank Battalion in Germany as a first lieutenant during the Korean War.
Following his military service, he played semi-pro baseball as a catcher. He also enjoyed traveling with the late sports radio host Bernard "Bucky" Bullett and assisting with local sports broadcasts.
Mr. Lamarre began his teacher career as a math teacher at Haskins School and then taught Earth science at Drury High School for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked part time at the Williams College Museum of Art and at Taconic Golf Club, both in Williamstown.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Taconic Golf Club. He also enjoyed following Williams College athletics. He was devoted to his family and was the primary caregiver to his parents and his late sister, Marie.
He leaves seven nieces and nephews, Michelle Lawlor and her husband, Dennis, of East Killingly, Conn., Michael Lamarre of Salem, N.H., and David Lamarre and his wife, Jane Marie, Christopher Lamarre and his wife, Tina, Peter Lamarre and his wife, Laurie, Mary Beth Parisien, and her husband, James, and Stefan Lamarre and his wife, Laura, all of North Adams; and five great=nieces and one great-nephew.
His brother, Edward Lamarre and his wife Claire; and his sister, Marie are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Lamarre will be celebrated Saturday, June 2, at 10:30 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams.
