Eve Claffey, 10

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Everett Jane "Eve" Claffey, 10, of Williamstown died on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, after a protracted battle with mitochondrial disease.

Born in in Akron, Ohio, on July 16, 2005, daughter of James and Sharon Longo Claffey, she lived in Georgia with her parents for three years, where she was diagnosed with the disease. Her family moved to Williamstown, where the community welcomed her with open arms.

Eve loved going to school at Williamstown Elementary and was loved in return. Despite many physical limitations, she was an outgoing person with many friends and a wicked sense of humor.

Besides her loving parents, she leaves her brother, Seamus Claffey, at home; her maternal grandparents, Denis and Aldia Longo; paternal grandparents, James and Mary Jane Claffey; her uncles, David Longo and his family and Scott Claffey, and her beloved dog, JoJo.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A celebration of Eve's life will take place on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 3:30 from First Congregational Church in Williamstown. Calling hours will be Saturday from noon to 2:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation or HospiceCare in the Berkshires.
