NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Smith Vocational football team Friday filled up the scoreboard in a 56-32 road win over McCann.

It was an explosive offensive performance for Smith Voc, who found multiple ways to score and left McCann (0-6) on the wrong side of a high-scoring contest.

The Vikings came out firing, scoring on each of their first three offensive possessions. They opened the game with a seven-play, 50-yard drive capped by a 4-yard touchdown run to make it 8-0. After forcing a turnover on downs, Smith struck again on a 45-yard touchdown run. The Vikings did not attempt a pass until late in the fourth quarter, relying heavily on their dominant ground game. A fumble recovery early in the second quarter set up another score, a 78-yard burst that extended the lead to 20-0.

It looked like things could get out of hand quickly, but McCann continued to fight. The Hornets found their first spark when Aidan Ford broke free for a 26-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit and giving his team some life. McCann’s defense followed with a much-needed stop to keep the score 20-8 at halftime.

McCann hoped to carry that momentum into the second half, but its opening drive stalled, and Smith Vocational capitalized immediately with a punt return touchdown to go up 28-8. Ford responded with his second rushing score of the game from nine yards out, bringing the Hornets closer. However, defensive lapses continued to hurt McCann, as Smith connected on another big play to stretch the lead to 36-16.

McCann quarterback Anthony Trzcinski then found the end zone through the air, connecting on a 14-yard touchdown pass that again brought the Hornets within two scores. But the Vikings answered right back with a deep strike downfield, a contested catch that made it 42-24. After an interception by the Smith defense, they added another touchdown to put the game out of reach.

McCann’s Marquese Moody added a late highlight with an impressive catch-and-run for a touchdown, giving the Hornets their highest point total of the season at 32. Smith Vocational capped off the night with one final touchdown and their second interception to seal the 56-32 win.

Smith Vocational forced three turnovers in total, two interceptions and a fumble recovery, on their way to their third victory of the season. Despite the loss, McCann showed progress and resilience, with several underclassmen making key contributions. The Hornets will close out their season next weekend against Belchertown.
