Mount Greylock's Albert, Hoosac Valley's Feeley Recognized SportsPrint Story | Email Story
A killer and a drive-killer are this week's Community Bank Athletes of the Week.
On a Saturday afternoon in Cheshire when points were hard to come by, Hoosac Valley junior running back Liam Feeley accounted for the game's only touchdown.
But almost as significantly, Hoosac Valley junior linebacker Liam Feeley forced a fumble late in the game to stall a Taconic drive and secure a needed 8-0 win for the Hurricanes.
"We did a good job defensively," Hoosac Valley coach Dayne Poirot said after his team ended a two-game losing skid and went to 2-2 this fall. "Liam made a great play late in the game, and it was all the difference, then we made some key stops at the end."
At the beginning, Feeley helped Hoosac take the lead with a 12-yard TD to cap the 'Canes' first possession.
Running behind his team's stout offensive line, Feeley gamed 74 yards rushing on the day.
Mount Greylock senior Maddie Albert had seven kills on Friday evening to lead the Mounties to a five-set win over Lenox.
That match continued a four-match winning streak for the 8-3 Mounties, a streak that started with a win over perennial power and 2017 Western Mass finalist Lee last Friday.
For the season Albert has 43 kills on 119 attempts for an attack percentage of 31 percent. She also has 53 aces and 188 assists to go with 76 digs.
"She plays attacker/setter both right and leftside," Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said of Albert. "Sometimes she sets in a 5-1 system and sometimes she sets in a 6-2 system and passes and attacks also.  We change systems during matches to respond to what our opponent is doing, and she is extremely good at playing any position.
"She is one of three captains, along with Marley Buffis and Caroline Hadley."
Mount Greylock looks to continue its winning ways on Wednesday at home against Mount Everett.
The Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Adams Community Bank.
