Big scores in late-game situations are a theme for this week’s Athletes of the Week.

On Monday, Hoosac Valley senior Olivia Bresett started the week with a game-winning goal in the 78th minute to lift her team to a 4-3, comeback win over Amherst.

On Friday night, Pittsfield High junior Edwin Rodriguez scored on a 59-yard run in the closing minute to secure a 52-36 win for the Generals over visiting Woodstock (Conn.) Academy.

Bresett had two goals in that win over Amherst, a game in which the Hurricanes trailed, 3-0, at half-time. She followed up that performance with a goal and an assist in a win at Taconic and an assist in Friday’s 1-1 tie versus Lenox.

On the season, she has three goals and a team-high four assists for the 3-1-1 Hurricanes.

Rodriguez and the Pittsfield football team are unbeaten at 3-0, and they were cruising to that third victory on Friday with a 32-6 half-time lead over the visiting Centaurs.

“We expected for them to come out hard, and they didn’t,” Rodriguez said. “We got a big lead, and we got too excited. And they came back. We fought hard to the fourth quarter and got the win.”

Woodstock Academy came back to close to within one score, 44-36, in the closing minutes before Rodriguez scored his fourth touchdown of the game. The running back ran for 237 yards and caught a 74-yard touchdown for the Generals, who host 3-0 Wahconah this Friday.
