MONTAGUE, Mass. — Perseverance paid off for the McCann Tech boys soccer team on Friday as the Mounties scored four second-half goals in a 5-0 win over Franklin Tech.

The Hornets (10-0-2) had a 14-2 advantage in shots at half-time but only a Shane Fuller goal at the end of the first half to show for it.

Dom Demeo started the play with a cross from the left side at midfield for Josh Budaj. Budaj sent Fuller on a through ball, and McCann's leading scorer notched the first of his three goals on the day.

"Franklin Tech played very well defensively in the first half," McCann coach Tom Bona said. "Franklin's goalie played a good game, but we kept pressuring offensively and tired them out by the second half.  Our defense was strong and helped with the offense by keeping the ball up in Franklin's end of the field."

Early in the second half, Dillon Carr set up Damon Couture for what became the first of four McCann goals in a 10-minute span to put the game out of reach. Fuller wrapped two goals around a Budaj tally, and the Hornets got assists from Steve Lemire, Evan Lemire and Kevin Dowling.

Carr also anchored the McCann defense in front of goalkeeper Chris Gajda, who made three saves for the shutout.

McCann hosts Pathfinder on Tuesday.
