SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Putnam boys soccer team only allowed one opponent to score more than a goal against it this season -- before McCann Tech came to town.

Mike Moreno and Damon Couture scored for the Hornets, and Chris Gajda made five saves to lead McCann to a 2-0 road win.

It was McCann Tech's third shutout win this week.

"It was a defensive battle most of the game," McCann coach Tom Bona said. " McCann forced the offense most of the game but couldn't put it in the first half.  They were told by the coach to keep to the game plan and to keep controlling the ball and it paid off.

"They wore the Putnam defense down and scored on two beautiful late game plays."

The game-winner was a cross from Kevin Dowling from the left wing that Moreno headed home.

With just more than two minutes left, Shane Fuller sent a cross from the right wing for Couture, who buried it.

McCann Tech (7-3) will take a three-game winning streak into Tuesday's match at Pioneer Valley Christian.
