PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The McCann Tech boys' soccer team scored enough goals to earn a win against Saint Joseph's on Monday. It was the defense, however, which failed the Hornets in an 8-4 loss on the road.

Matt Begrowicz scored four goals on the day, while Jongmon Hong added a hat trick of his own to lead the Crusaders' offense. Mike Belowski also found the back of the net for the hosts, which opened a commanding 6-2 lead at halftime.

"This was a high-scoring game, and St. Joe's scored early each half," McCann head coach Adam Kozik said. "Neither team seemed to have a strong defense during the game. Our goalkeeper and our back four learned a lot about positioning during this game."

The Hornets (2-2) did manage to keep the game interesting, staying within two goals in the first half thanks to tallies by sophomores Damon Couture and Jon Leal. The Crusaders took control of the match by scoring the first four goals of the second half, but sophomore Shane Fuller made the score more respectable with a a pair of strikes, one each in the 58th and 70th minute of the game.

McCann next hosts Mount Everett at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
