SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Monument Mountain boys soccer team Thursday beat Pope Francis, 5-4, in two overtimes, to advance to the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class B tournament.

The victory gave the Spartans a 1-0-2 record against the Cardinals. Monument Mountain won the first meeting, in Great Barrington, 2-1, and tied Pope Francis at its place, 2-2, on Oct. 16.

It also sets up a rematch between the Spartans and top-seeded Hampshire in the semifinals on Saturday evening.

Monument Mountain lost to Hampshire by scores of 1-0 and 2-0 in the regular season.

With the win, the Spartans move to 10-3-3 on the season, though for MIAA seeding purposes, Thursday's match counts as a tie.
