As the fall season enters its second month, this week's iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week have their respective teams positioned as the teams to beat in their respective Berkshire County North Division leagues.

At Pittsfield High, the boys soccer team is 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the North, and Carter Matthews has been a big part of the reason why.

Matthews is leading the Generals in goals and assists with six of each. On Saturday, he matched his uniform number with three helpers in a 4-0 matinee win over East Longmeadow.

Earlier in the week, he had an assist in a key 4-0 win over a solid Monument Mountain side.

This week, Pittsfield goes to Hoosac Valley on Tuesday before coming home Friday for a big matchup against perennial power and surging Mount Greylock under the lights at BCC.

The Monument Mountain girls had a major Berkshire County League matchup Saturday against South Division favorite Lenox.

Aubrey Blanchard scored the tying and winning goals as the Spartans prevailed, 2-1, to maintain their perfect record at 6-0.

"We rely a lot on the strength of our senior squad and the leadership they bring to the team on and off the field," Monument Mountain coach Jess Platt said. "Aubrey is no exception to that."

For the season, Blanchard leads the Spartans with eight goals.

This week, Monument Mountain hosts Lee before a non-league game at Belchertown.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Adams Community Bank.
