NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – After spotting the Northampton boys soccer team a three-goal half-time lead, Pittsfield Monday rallied but fell short in a 3-2 loss.

Bash Sowe got the Generals on the board with a goal in the 44th minute, and Thomas Gonzalez scored with four minutes left to make it a one-goal game.

“I could not be more proud of my team’s performance tonight,” Pittsfield coach Ryan Wanek said. “Being down 3-0 at halftime is hard for young players to fight back from, it’s so much easier to roll over and accept the loss.

“But the boys kept fighting till the last whistle, we absolutely dominated Northampton in the second half. That’s something not all teams in the state will be able to say about Northampton, they are a very very good side. Now we need to continue this momentum, even though it’s a loss, to the rest of the season.”

Pittsfield (1-7-1) hosts Minnechaug on Thursday.
