SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Emily Steuernagle scored late in the first half to send the Mount Everett girls soccer team on to a 2-1 win over Ware in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class E tournament.

The Eagles (10-4-3) move on to the semi-finals and a date against Hopkins Academy, a 4-0 winner over Lee on Wednesday.

“The girls came out today with more intensity and applied pressure early on Ware’s defense,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “We had a bunch of quality chances, corner kicks, and some good looks just couldn't seem to find the back of the net.

“With about two minutes to play in the first half, Emily made a couple nice moves, found an opening, and took her shot which ricocheted off the post and into the net.”

Chevelle Raifstanger scored an insurance goal in the second half, and it came in handy when Ware managed a second half score.

“Our defense did a great job of locking down, had some scary situations, but they did awesome today and Emma [Goewey] is always solid in goal for us,” King said.

Goewey made 10 saves in the win.
