PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Jordyn Lloyd scored early and often for the McCann Tech girls soccer team Tuesday as it stayed unbeaten with a 7-2 win over Taconic under the lights at BCC.

Lloyd opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute and went on to score three more times as the Hornets won their third straight and improved to 5-0-2 this fall.

“Jordyn had a fabulous game, scoring four goals,” McCann Tech coach Lindsay Lincoln said. “She’s really playing strong. Shaylee [Lawson] is playing great soccer, and Faith’s really holding the anchor in the defensive end.”

With those three senior stalwarts helping the Hornets build a 4-0 lead in the 30th minute, Lincoln had plenty of playing time to give to her reserves.

“We’ve been playing well all season,” Lincoln said. “We gave some of the younger girls an opportunity to play today, which was good. We, obviously, have to get them ready for next year, as we’re losing nine seniors.

“But we’re having a great season. I’m excited to keep it going.”

Sophomore Lainey Field accounted for McCann Tech’s second goal with a strike from about 25 yards in the eighth minute.

Then Lloyd scored a pair of unassisted goals to finish out the half.

The Thunder, which entered the game without a shutout loss this fall, faced that possibility at half-time.

“It was disappointing,” Taconic coach Dean Bamford said. “This is the first game we’ve come up against a really strong team. But we asked for a reaction [at half-time], and we got a reaction. And as a coach with a team that is progressing, that’s all I can ask for is a reaction – on the ball, off the ball.”

Tilly Delsignore got the Thunder on the scoreboard with a shot from the right wing just five minutes into the second half.

McCann Tech re-established the four-goal lead three minutes later when Lawson broke into the 18 unmarked and beat Taconic keeper Nahla Phillips to make it 5-1.

Phillips finished with 14 saves on a night when she was under constant pressure, particularly in the first half.

“Three weeks ago, she wasn’t my keeper,” Bamford said. “She volunteered, and she took to it like a duck to water. And, again, that’s all we can ask from anyone. You want to be here, she put the hard work in, and she kept the score down.”

Midway through the second half, Aliana Diaz gave Taconic its second goal, prompting a McCann Tech timeout.

The Hornets regrouped and finished the night with scores from Lawson and Lloyd, three minutes apart, to provide the five-goal margin.

McCann Tech will look to stay unbeaten on Thursday when it hosts St. Mary’s.

“The girls really worked hard in the off-season, and last year, we had a great year,” Lincoln said, referencing a 16-5 campaign that included a win in the Division 5 State Tournament. “So I expected that we’d come in this season wanting to play. Wanting to go undefeated is a goal for the season.

“They are meeting expectations. Our seniors are keeping things going. And I’m excited to see how the rest of the season unravels for us.”

And while Taconic’s 2-4 record is not as impressive at first glance, it has to be measured against a 2024 campaign in which the Thunder did not score a goal until its seventh game and did not get a win until its 11th game while finishing with 12 shutouts against it.

“As a team, this is the first time in, probably, eight years we’ve been competitive in every game,” Bamford said. “And we’ve scored in every game so far. As a coach, the development is all I’m asking for.”
