This week’s iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week have their teams gearing up for runs in their respective Western Massachusetts tournaments as the final week of the regular season gets underway.

The Wahconah girls soccer team, which missed the post-season last fall, was the No. 6 seed in Class B heading into the weekend after going 4-0-1 in its last five games before Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Class A Agawam.

Wahconah’s top scorer this season has been sophomore Brooke Harrington with 13 goals in the team’s first 12 games.

Harrington had a big week for Wahconah, contributing a goal in a 2-0 win over Lenox and scoring all three goals in a 3-0 win over Drury.

Wahconah has a busy and challenging final week ahead with a home game against Monson, the second-ranked team in Class C, on Monday and a road game at Mount Greylock, the top team in Class C, two days later.

In addition to the regional tournament, Wahconah will be looking to improve its position in the Division 4 State Tournament field. It already has qualified for those playoffs and, as of Friday, it was No. 16 in the state, in line for a first-round home game in the 32-team field.

Likewise, the Hoosac Valley boys are No. 16 in Division 5 and sport a 9-1-2 record after a three-game winning streak that included a pair of wins last week.

Dylan Rohlfs had at least a point in each of those three wins. He scored two goals in Tuesday’s win over Franklin Tech and, like Harrigton did against the Blue Devils, handled all the scoring himself in a 3-0 win at Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School.

For the season, Rohlfs has 16 goals in the Hurricanes’ 12 games.

Hoosac Valley has two games left in the regular season: Tuesday at home against Mount Everett and Friday at Turners Falls.

The final play date for regular season boys and girls soccer games in Western Mass is Oct. 20; the regional tournament brackets are due to come out the next day.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
