Lenox Hands Smith Voc Its First Loss
LENOX, Mass. – Jane Elliot scored two goals and assisted on a third Wednesday to lead the Lenox girls soccer team to a 3-1 win over Smith Vocational.
The Millionaires (6-6) snapped a two-game skid and handed the Vikings their first loss of the season.
Morgan Chevalier scored the first half’s only goal off a through ball from Elliot with just more than 11 minutes left in the first half.
“At half time we talked about how they were going to come out intense and with a lot of force and how we needed to match that, and we did just that,” Lenox coach Nicole Gamberoni said.
Cate Welch doubled Lenox’s lead with a goal from the top of the 18 seven minutes into the half.
But Smith Voc responded eight minutes later to get within one.
Elliot provided an insurance goal in a back-and-forth game with 12 minutes, 30 seconds left when she converted an assist from Claire Welch.
“Audie [Tresp] in goal had yet another standout game,” Gamberoni said. “Each game, she is finding herself more and more comfortable and confident in net which is amazing to watch.”
Lenox is at Mount Greylock on Thursday.
