Smith Voc Girls Advance Past Lenox
LENOX, Mass. – Evelyn Wanczyk scored a goal and provided an assist Monday to lead the fifth-seeded Smith Vocational girls soccer team to a 5-1 win over Lenox in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class C Tournament.
Jane Elliot scored with an assist from Cate Welch to tie the game for Lenox in the first half, but the Vikings took a 2-1 lead into half-time and pulled away in the second half.
“It was a tough battle all the way until the end,” Lenox coach Nicole Gamberoni said. “Smith Voc played a very fast and aggressive game tonight that we just weren’t able to keep up with.
“The girls played through the end. We have some things to work on but we are now just looking forward to the next game and states.”
Lenox (8-8-1) will play in the tournament’s consolation round to finish the regular season before heading to next week’s Division 5 State Tournament.
