New-Look Mounties Top Lee
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- For the second straight year, the Mount Greylock volleyball team has needed to reload.
Two matches into the season, it looks like the Mounties are doing just that.
In 2024, Mount Greylock was coming off a '23 State Championship powered by a standout senior class and rolled to a Western Mass title, a 19-4 record and a berth in the state quarter-finals.
This fall, the Mounties are looking to replace five graduated seniors, a senior captain who was injured in the spring and another player who transferred.
On Friday night, they improved to 2-0 with a four-set win over perennial rival Lee.
"The home opener in the Mountie Dome had a great fan base, and Lee played a great game, pushing the Mounties every set," Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said after the 25-22, 25-15, 26-28, 25-15 win.
Sophomore Olivia Perez had a double-double for Mount Greylock with 19 kills and 15 assists.
Classmate Tyanna Lepicier stuffed the stat sheet with 10 digs, eight kills and seven aces.
And a third sophomore, Kaleigh Jaros, passed out 24 assists to go with six aces.
Anna Garnish served four aces, and Kiera Kristensen finished with four kills in the win.
Alexis Masten had 13 kills, and Hanna Achurra had 10 to lead Lee. Claire Davis pulled up 14 digs.
Kassidy Clark passed out 27 assists and pulled up nine digs for the Wildcats.
Lee (0-2) hosts Southwick on Monday.
Mount Greylock (2-0) is at Lenox on Tuesday.
