Cormier Leads Taconic Past Wahconah
DALTON, Mass. – Gracie Cormier led the Taconic volleyball team in three categories Tuesday as the Thunder beat Wahconah in three sets.
Cormier recorded eight kills, seven aces and six digs in the 25-21, 25-10, 25-22 win.
“Very important win tonight as we try to hang onto our sixth-place seed in the Western Massachusetts bracket, where Wahconah was closely ranked right behind us in seventh, and in the Division 3 state bracket we had just jumped from 41 to 31 with hopes of hosting a play-in team if we can stay above 32 seed,” Taconic coach Lance Fyfe said.
Kiera Yee put down six kills and recorded a couple of blocks for Taconic, which got 12 assists from Kiara Burston.
“[Yee] and Jill Koomson [one block] slowed down Wahconah’s offense with their aggressive defense in the middle of the net, Fyfe said.
Kenadi Arnhold led Wahconah with seven kills and a pair of aces, and Ila Gagne had five kills in the loss.
Wahconah (7-11) waits to learn who it will face in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Class B Tournament.
Taconic (10-7) hosts Drury on Thursday.
