AGAWAM, Mass. – It was a milestone night on a couple of different levels and a tremendous five-set win for the Wahconah volleyball team on Tuesday night.

Wahconah rebounded after dropping the third and fourth sets to earn its 10th win of the season and the 150th career win for coach Dave Lussier.

Eva Jacinto delivered 11 kills in the 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 15-8 win over Agawam guarantees Wahconah a spot in the state tournament.

Wahconah fought from behind all the way in the second set, finally tying it at 22 on a kill by Olivia Mason for a side out. Eva Jacinto then served the final three points of the set to put Wahconah up 2-0.

“The third and fourth set saw some of the same, with Agawam mounting a big lead in the third set (14-2), leading Wahconah to fight back and tying it at 17 but not finishing,” Lussier said. “The fourth set was a seesaw battle to 19-19. Good serving from Agawam pushed to a deciding set.”

In that fifth set, Wahconah took an early lead on a five-point run from Sasha Fyfe. The crucial run included a couple of Fyfe aces and kills from Jacinto and Megan O’Bryan.

Wahconah went up 10-2 before taking the fifth, 15-8.

Fyfe finished with four aces and 12 digs. Jacinto pulled up nine digs, and Katie McCormack delivered four kills.

Wahconah Thursday will work on improving its tournament seed when it goes to Ludlow.
