NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The McCann Tech boys cross country team defeated Franklin Tech Tuesday afternoon, 24-35, on Senior Day at Windsor Lake.

McCann senior Jerry McCarthy finished in second with a time of 17 minutes, 57 seconds, behind Franklin Tech's Sohan Tyner who finished at 17:40.

Coach Eileen Monyahan for the Hornets spoke very highly of her second place finisher as he ran out his final route at Windsor Lake and of her senior squad all together.

"This group of seniors is absolutely phenomenal, the whole team is," she said. "This team worked very hard, they really wanted to make sure they performed well today; Jerry ran an outstanding race, that's probably his best time of the year and best time on course."

McCann had six runners finish in the top 10: Cam Anderson  (19:38) in third, Corey Hantley in fourth (19:40), Lucas Yelle in eighth (19:58), Billy Galipeau in ninth (20:18), and Jake Obostobinski in tenth (20:19).

Although McCarthy finished first out of his team, he was looking to take first overall to top of his senior day and last run on their home course.

"I was really tired, I was really trying to get into first place because it was my last race," McCarthy said. "It took a lot of energy just getting up the last hills though and once I got up I killed my energy and I didn't have the strength to finish it off strong."

For the girls, Hannah Blake finished first for McCann with a time of 24:24 and Dakota Hurley finished fifth with a time of 25:46.
