Mount Everett Wrestlers Fourth at Holyoke Tourney

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Diego Cruz and Tyler Candelari took individual championships Saturday to lead the Mount Everett wrestling team to a fourth-place finish at the Knighthawk Classic.
 
At 106 pounds, Cruz pinned Joshua Neal of North Middlesex in the first minute of their title bout to wrap up a four-pin day for Cruz.
 
Candelari also had four pins at 126, including a seven-second stop in the first round.
 
In the finals, Candelari pinned East Longmeadow’s Gabrial Roman at the start of the second period.
 
Mount Everett’s Nick Lupiani reached the 132 final with three pins but was stopped by Taunton’s Xavier Sandoval 3 minutes, 58 seconds into their championship match to give Lupiani a silver medal.
 
Three Eagles finished their days with wins in the third-place match: Connor Lupiani (113), Michael Devoti (152) and Omar Cruz (138).
 
Mount Everett finished with 135 team points, just behind third-place North Middlesex (138). Taunton won the event with 249 points.
 
Mount Greylock placed 10th out of 17 schools with 66.5 points.
 
The Mounties had a pair of runners-up.
 
At 160 pounds, Aiden MacPherson recorded three first-period pins on his way to the final, where he dropped a 14-0 technical fall decision to Brendan Coutts of Catholic Memorial.
 
Nicholas Belora pinned two opponents on his way to the final at 195, where Frontier’s Jake Mattson stopped the Mountie at the end of the first period.
 
Mount Greylock’s Seth Blachard dropped his first match at 132 but battled through the wrestlebacks to the third-place bout, where he was pinned by Fevzi Elevli of Hampden Charter East.
