Taconic Finishes in Top Third at Lowell Tournament

LOWELL, Mass. -- Zabion Powell earned a medal at 145 pounds Friday as the Taconic wrestling team placed 26th out of 76 teams competing at the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament.
 
Powell won won match in the consolation bracket, pinning Bishop Guertin (N.H.’s) Matt Frechette, in 1 minute, 32 seconds, after dropping into the consies with a quarter-final loss on Friday morning.
 
Taconic’s Dylan Burke (182) and Shawn O’Shea each were one win away from placing at the prestigious tournament.
 
Burke lost his first bout in the consolations in a 6-4 decision. O’Shea was pinned by the tournament’s second seed, Joe Gjinaj of Connecticut’s Fairfield Warde, in the second round of their quarter-final match on Friday morning.
 
The tournament team title went to Springfield Central with 177 points after it edged Mount Anthony Union (174 points).
