Powell, Burke in Consolation Brackets at New England Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I., -- Taconic’s Dylan Burke and Zabion Powell are alive in the consolation bracket after one day at the New England Wrestling Championships at the Providence Career and Technical Center.
 
At 182 pounds on Friday, Burke earned an 8-2 decision in his first consy bracket match, defeating Jonah Potter of Wells, Maine.
 
Burke had fallen to the wrestlebacks after a second-period pin against Cameron Anderson of Chariho in their opening-round match.
 
Powell dropped into the consolation bracket by the narrowest of margins, losing, 4-3, to Danbury, Conn.’s, Ben Leblanc.
 
But Powell came back with an 8-3 win in the consys against Dracut, Mass., grappler Devin Lambert.
 
Springfield Central is in third place in the team standings after one day with 25 points, four points behind leader Danbury.
 
Bennington, Vt.’s, Mount Anthony Union is tied for sixth place with 20 points.
