Southwick Tops Taconic in Western Mass Quarters

SOUTHWICK, Mass. -- The Taconic volleyball team Tuesday pushed third-seeded Southwick to four sets before bowing out in the quarter-finals of the Class C Western Massachusetts tournament.
 
“Taconic demanded the respect of Southwick’s volleyball team in Taconic’s first visit to the Western Mass tournament in over 10 years,” Taconic coach Lance Fyfe said.
 
Brenna McNeice had a double-double for Taconic with 15 digs and 14 assists . 
 
Rose Mahoney and Naomi Tayi led the No. 6 seed with five kills apiece, and Natalia Dos Santos had 13 digs, five aces and three assists.
 
Taconic dropped the first set, 25-11, but came roaring back to tie the match in set No. 2.
 
In the third, the Rams jumped out to a six-point lead that Taconic could not overcome. Southwick pulled away late in a back-and-forth fourth set to take a 25-21 win.
 
Taconic will finish the regular season on Thursday against one of the other quarter-final losers in the Class C bracket.
