Taconic Wrestlers Win Holiday Tourney

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Mason Papirio earned a dramatic pin in the last second of the 138-pound championship match to punctuate the Taconic wrestling team’s victory at the Berkshire Holiday Tournament on Wednesday at Monument Mountain.
 
Papirio won all four of his matches by pins. In the final, he was ahead 12-1 when he finally managed to pin Ichabod Crane’s Brandon Gardner at 5 minutes, 59 seconds.
 
Taconic finished with 207.5 points, well ahead of second-place Maple Hill (158.5) in the team standings. Hoosick Falls finished third with 147.5, followed by Mount Greylock (137) and host Monument (130).
 
Taconic picked up five individual titles. Zabion Powell (132), Isiah Williams (152), Tanner Hastings (170) and Austin Houghtaling (182) all joined Papirio at the top of the podium.
 
Mount Greylock took home two individual titles.
 
At 160 pounds, Devin Pelletier was on the mat for fewer than two minutes combined in his three matches - all pins. At 195, Alex Griffis earned a 9-2 decision over Quabbin’s Stephen Tremblay in the title match.
