CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Fifty Berkshire County high school student-athletes participated in a Leadership Training on Monday at Hoosac Valley High School.
Inner Edge provides a one-day forum where athletic student leaders receive a customized, intensive training that introduces and reinforces basic leadership and life skills to assist them in maximizing their contribution to their teams, school and community.
The curriculum is experiential-based, relying on “shared” learning to impact and empower the participants. The training stresses personal growth through individual and team challenges that focus on communication, the value of building relationships, making healthy life choices and fun.
Students from Mount Greylock, Mount Everett, Hoosac Valley and Wahconah were in attendance.
"It was a great day," Hoosac Valley junior Nakiya Hubbard said. "It encouraged me to branch out and meet new people and helped to develop proactive ways to motivate my peers and teammates".
Participants engaged in reflection, discussion, interactive activities and confidence building strategies.
"These events are so important in building skills necessary for life," Hoosac Valley Athletic Director Molly Meczywor said. "They allow student-athletes to grow in their own ways in addition to becoming positive, engaged leaders with their teams. We are grateful the MIAA afforded us this opportunity and working with Deb Hult and Trevor Hult was an amazing experience."
