Wahconah Boys, New Lebanon Girls Pick Up Swimming Wins

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- Alex Sotek and Rose Denue won a pair of races Monday to lead the New Lebanon girls swim team to a 56-33 win over Wahconah.
 
In the boys meet, Wahconah turned the tables, riding a pair of wins by Jacob Kunzman and Fred Sears to a 54-34 win over the Tigers.
 
Sotek won the 200-yard medley relay in 2 minutes, 25.79 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 1:05.43. Denue took the 200 freestyle in 3:04.97 and the 500 free in 8:36.38.
 
Amelia Bergquist and Arlynn Keefner each won a race for Wahconah. Bergquist took the 100 free in 1:11.62. Keefner touched first in the 100 backstroke in 1:25.87.
 
Kunzmann edged his teammate in a two-man race in the 100 butterfly, touching in 1:06.10. And he beat a full field in the 100 free with a time of 59.37. Sears won the 200 free in 2:09.32 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.43.
 
Xavier Wellington also picked up a win for Wahconah, in the 50 free (35.52).
 
New Lebanon’s Liam Buckenroth won two events, the 500 free (6:47.81) and 100 back (1:22.83).
 
Wahconah hosts PIttsfield on Friday. New Lebanon hosts Taconic on Monday.
