DALTON, Mass. -- Tim Kaley birdied the 518-yard, par-5 seventh hole at Wahconah Country Club Monday on his way to a 4-over 39 that led the Wahconah golf team to a 162-193 win over Hoosac Valley on opening day for both teams.

Kaley registered one of three birdies for Wahconah as the team placed four players at 42 or better in the win.

Brady Breitmaier started his round with a birdie on the 394-yard, par-4 first hole and finished with a 40 for the day.

Sam McLaughlin did not score with a 46, but that was better than all by one of the Hurricanes, and he also birdied the seventh hole for Wahconah.

"Very steady effort today led by Tim Kaley and Brady Breitmaier," Wahconah coach Pete Terpak said. "Newcomer Vincent Scalise continues to impress in the early stages of the season.

"The team seemed to be a bit jittery to start the match and the scores were a bit higher then the first week of practice. I think the nerves of playing in the first match of the season was to be expected."

Scalise carded a 41, and Pat McLaughlin finished with a 42 to roud out the scoring for Wahconah.

Hoosac Valley was led by Ian Cappiello with a 45. Zachary Mongeon (48), Corey Charron (49) and Gabe Bishop (51) rounded out the scoring for the Hurricanes.

Hoosac Valley hosts Mount Everett on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Wahconah travels to face Taconic on Thursday.
