"Sam is an amazing student-athlete, and I am told is the first Unified Track and Field Athlete to receive this honor," Wahconah administrator and coach Jared Shannon said. "I have coached him for his entire career and nominated him for this recognition. I am so thankful that he received this amazing honor."
Throughout his time at Wahconah Regional High School, Iovieno has approached his education with an admirable work ethic and an infectious enthusiasm. Thriving in both his core classes and life skills curriculum, he has proven himself to be an active, deeply engaged participant in his education. His determination to succeed in all of his classes has earned him the immense respect of his teachers and peers alike.
Iovieno is widely recognized as one of the premier athletes at Wahconah Regional High School, serving as a vital cornerstone of the school’s powerhouse Unified Track Program. As a team captain this spring, Iovieno led by example during an extraordinary May 2026 campaign—setting personal records (PRs) in every single one of his events.
His athletic resume is filled with elite achievements:

Beyond the medals, Iovieno's passion for sports is infectious. He brings a "team-first" attitude to the track every single day, constantly cheering on his teammates and competitors alike, driven by a genuine desire to see everyone happy and successful.
He also is a two-sport athlete and a standout on Wahconah's Unified Basketball team for several years.
Iovieno's leadership and kindness extend far beyond the athletic fields. He is a prominent, familiar face at local events and a passionate advocate for inclusion. Iovieno is a highly active member of the Best Buddies program at Wahconah, regularly attends community recreation and school athletic events to support his peers, and is a dedicated mainstay at the annual Buddy Walk of the Berkshires.
