Mount Greylock Girls Tennis Dominant in Playoff Opener

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls tennis team won five matches in straight sets Friday to advance to the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Division 3 tournament.
 
At No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, the Mounties did not even lose a game as they ran their dual record to 8-1 with a 5-0 win over St. Mary’s of Westfield.
 
Mia Van Deurzen earned the point at first singles. The tandem of Izzy Leonard and Olivia Winters matched her with a 6-0, 6-0 win at first doubles.
 
No. 2 Hannah Gilooly was pushed a little but prevailed, 7-5, 6-4. No. 3 Charlotte Sanford cruised, 6-0, 6-2.
 
At second doubles, Mai O’Connor and Piper Schulman won, 6-0, 6-1.
 
Third-seeded Mount Greylock moves on to Tuesday’s sectional final four, where they will meet either No. 10 Turners Falls (2-7) or No. 2 Pioneer Valley Christian Academy (8-0); those two squads meet on Monday in the quarters.
