Mount Greylock 400 Relay Team Wins Division 6 Title

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Mount Greylock’s boys 4-by-100 relay quartet Monday won the Division 6 Championship and led the Mounties to a fourth-place finish in the state at Westfield State University.
 
Jack Catelotti, Matteo Chang, Jackson Powell and Preston Maruk clocked a time of 44.81 seconds to edge runner-up Amesbury (44.88).
 
The Mount Greylock boys earned points in all three relay events. Their mile relay squad placed fifth, and their 4-by-800 squad was sixth in the division.
 
Catelotti and Quinn McDermott each ran a leg on two different relays.
 
Mount Greylock also picked up points Monday in the throws, where Cameron Turner and Jenner Kittle were third and fifth, respectively, in the javelin and Judge Martin was eighth in the shot put.
 
The Mounties tied Amesbury for fourth place among 45 teams earning points in the meet. Littleton’s boys won the team title with 73.5 points.
 
Monument Mountain’s boys, behind a third-place finish in the 4-by-400 relay on Monday, tied for 22nd with 11 points. Wahconah earned seven points to tie for 31st.
 
The top Berkshire County girls team at the two-day event was Wahconah, which tied for 13th with 21 points.
 
Wahconah Monday got a third-place finish in the 100 meters from Aryianna Garceau and a third-place showing from its 4-by-100 relay quartet: Quinn Walton, Olivia Gamberoni, Molly Shippee and Garceau.
 
The county’s top individual finisher on Monday was Monument Mountain’s Lily Haskins-Vaughan in the high jump. She was one of two athletes to clear 5 feet, 2 inches, losing out on a tie-breaker to South Hadley’s Emma Sanford.
 
Whitinsville-Christian won the team event with 85.5 points. The Berkshire County contingent finished in a bunch in the middle of the 39 teams scoring points. After Wahconah in 13th came Hoosac Valley, tied for 16th (14 points); Mount Greylock in 18th (13 points); and Monument Mountain in 24th (eight points).
 
Neither Taconic’s boys nor girls earned a team point.
