County Track Teams Gather for Sprint Series at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The first major gathering of Berkshire County track and field teams this spring was dominated by an athlete from outside of Berkshire County.

 

Neil Howard of Craryville, N.Y.’s, Taconic Hills High School Saturday won all four events he entered at the Berkshire Sprint Series at Williams College’s Lee Track.

 

Howard, the only athlete to enter the competition not from a county school, won the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and 110 hurdles.

 

Five county schools competed in the non-scored event – six, including Monument Mountain’s Lily Haskins-Vaughn, who was the lone Spartan at the meet and won the 100 dash for ninth- and 10th-grade girls.

 

The girls meet produced two double-winners.

 

Mount Greylock’s Maggie Nichols won the 100 and 200. Her teammate Katherine Goss swept the hurdles.

 

Aside from Howard, the top performance in the boys meet was from Wahconah’s Payton Shippee, who won the discus and the javelin.
