WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – On Senior Day in Williamstown, a pair of seventh-graders helped the Mount Greylock girls cross country team earn a 26-31 win over Lenox and a sweep of the Millionaires this fall.

Sophomore Adrianna Carasone led Mount Greylock with a second place finish, placing 1 minute, 17 seconds behind Lenox’s Alice Culver (20:49.08).

Two weeks after losing by nine points in Williamstown, the Millionaires narrowed the gap, but Mount Greylock was able to pull out the win.

The Mounties and Millionaires split up 28 of the first 29 places in the 58-runner field. Mount Greylock secured the win with its fifth, sixth and seventh finishers, who took positions 9 through 11 in the dual meet.

Seventh-graders Elly Wilkinson and Riley Dickinson and junior Chase Hoey finished within nine seconds of one another to lock up those positions.

The Mounties girls went 3-0 on their home course, also beating Lee and Taconic, which did not have enough finishers for a team score. Culver led the Millionaires to a win over Lee.

In the boys race, Mount Greylock also went 3-0 behind a 1-2 finish from seniors Ollie Swabey and Andrew Petropulos.

The closest boys race also was between the Mounties and Millionaires. Lenox’s boys placed three runners in the top five with Cormac Mathews, Benjamin Harwood and Samuel Geller placing third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

A runner not from Lenox or Mount Greylock did crack the top 10 on the boys side. Taconic’s Noah Krantz placed eighth among 69 finishers and led the Thunder to a dual meet win over Lee.

All nine of the Berkshire County League’s cross country squads are scheduled to be in one place for the first time this fall when they square off next Wednesday at Wahconah.
